Norman K. Bets On Independent Wealth Management Consolidation By Establishing Luxembourg Office

With the official opening of its Luxembourg office on 20 January, independent wealth management and advisory group Norman K. takes a new step in its European development. To lead this strategic expansion in one of the continent’s leading financial centres, the group has appointed Nicolas L’Hermite, a former member of the Wealth Management executive team at BNP Paribas Luxembourg, where he spent nearly eighteen years.

A native of the region and a keen connoisseur of the Luxembourg ecosystem, Nicolas L’Hermite embodies a rare profile, at the crossroads of large international banking and entrepreneurial wealth management. “Luxembourg is a place I know intimately. I have seen the wealth management model evolve here, with an increasing sophistication of client needs,” he explains.

A response to the sector’s transformation

For the new CEO of Norman K. Luxembourg, this establishment reflects a profound transformation of the industry. “Private banking and wealth management are undergoing massive disintermediation. This is no coincidence: banks have to deal with heavy regulatory constraints and industrialise their processes, whereas wealth management for major clients remains fundamentally bespoke.”

After structuring complex financing operations within a major banking group, and supporting clients through bond issuance processes exceeding one billion euros as well as through wealth structuring, Nicolas L’Hermite reached the limits of the traditional banking model. “Saying no to a client when the transaction is bankable elsewhere is extremely frustrating. The independent model allows for true open architecture, on both the buy-side and the sell-side.”

An integrated and differentiating positioning

Founded in 2021, Norman K. has structured itself around four integrated verticals: asset management, structured credit, private markets and corporate advisory, as well as family office and wealth planning. This holistic approach appeals to an international clientele of entrepreneurial families and executives.

“Wealth management for very large clients is not about pushing products. They have specific needs, and our role is to design solutions that genuinely address them,” insists Nicolas L’Hermite. The group currently oversees nearly €10 billion in assets, including €2 billion in asset management, and employs 72 people. In 2024, the institutional fund MBO+ acquired a minority stake in the capital through a hybrid investment structure, in order to support the group’s growth.

Luxembourg, a natural hub and a consolidation opportunity

For Norman K., Luxembourg is an obvious strategic choice. “It is the natural gateway for large-scale wealth management in Europe. As soon as wealth becomes international, structuring almost inevitably goes through here,” observes Nicolas L’Hermite.

The group also intends to position itself as a consolidator. “We see many independent asset managers with a few hundred million euros under management questioning their critical size. Joining a group that offers a comprehensive platform can make a great deal of sense,” he believes.

Gradual scaling-up

The Luxembourg office is launching with a lean team, now strengthened by the arrival of experienced Senior Wealth Manager, Nicolas Mayer. Further recruitment is planned in the coming months, alongside ongoing discussions regarding external growth transactions. An official launch event is scheduled for March.

“Our ambition is clear: to build in Luxembourg a reference platform for European independent wealth management,” concludes Nicolas L’Hermite.
