In an increasingly complex world, the challenges confronted by legal professionals are similar to the ones their clients are also facing. As Managing Partner of Elvinger Hoss, Manou Hoss believes the firm’s greatest strength lies in “combining the finest legal talent with secure technology.”
One such example is in how the firm is helping clients navigate AI. “Everyone wants to seize the opportunities, whilst minimising the risks,” Hoss explains. “AI creates ethical, financial and change management challenges and, inside companies, it’s often our client’s job, the Legal Counsel’s, to navigate this transformation.”
Initially drawn to the independence of the legal profession, Hoss says that she hadn’t necessarily planned on becoming a lawyer, even while studying law. “I believed in the saying, ‘Law leads to everything, as long as you step outside of it.’” This has impacted her career over the years. Following her studies, she had a secondment with a Magic Circle law firm in London, which provided her with insights into working at a large firm. Later she came back to Luxembourg, working as a lawyer mainly with the banking sector, later becoming Managing Partner of the firm she’s at today, a role she has held for over 20 years.

Hoss says her leadership style is collaborative. But also integral to her career has been her service as a volunteer: Hoss is Vice President of the board of the Luxembourg Red Cross, where she has volunteered since she was 16. Such service has given a lot back to her too, providing her with insights into a diverse range of people’s lives and “very good knowledge of what is needed in this country.”
The law firm, volunteering, but also family, which now includes grandchildren, are what Hoss calls her “triptych.” She believes that “having a fulfilling personal life, rich in diverse experience, is an asset that helps me navigate my professional life more effectively.”
Her advice to the next generation of legal professionals? “Always question things. Positively think outside the box.”
